Ducks! Steps from the museum caf go right down to the water.
From Te Papa outside terrace, looking across the bay towards downtown.
In the close foreground just past the docks are some kayakers. Further away are the cranes and container loading areas.
Downtown on the wharf is a ferris wheel!
Many of the museum artifacts had "no photos" but this was just cute, in the lobby. Notice the bottom left corner where it shows them taking out a chunk of roadway.
Possums are vermin here - they are not native, and they kill kiwi and other native animals. Every self-respecting kiwi car driver goes out of his way to run over possums.
Fossilized remains of a possum on a road :-)
Self-serve cafe at the museum - good food and surprisingly reasonably priced. Look at the bottom left of the case:
Venison and Guiness Pie
The Museum is quite good and representative of all of NZ cultures and history.
Of course Bob was quite enthralled with the Tiger Moth, outfitted as a top-dresser (crop-duster).
Outside the museum, on the wharf, pretty sailing ships in the distance. Gorgeous blue water - very clean for a busy harbor!
"Tasman Orient" is the shipping line owning the big container ship, with her own cranes for loading. A tugboat is obscuring the name.
Kayaks for rent
Helo is both for rent for sightseeing, and it says "Rescue" on the tail.
City Centre has a nice Gallery - Free Entry woo-hoo!
Hmmm foiled again. Just not having good luck with stuff being open.
Interesting sculptures on the steps
And more sculptures up in the air on the next terrace up.
It's about 4pm and our 7am ferry tomorrow morning is just pulling in
It's a long ways away - it's HUGE.
Interesting theme of the city of Wellington.
Rowers' Club
Teaching newbies from the look of what the instructors were doing
Road sign before a railway crossing - cute!
This crossing is for an electic train so it also has the "bzzzt zap" high-voltage warning sign for the wires up top.
