We drive from Kekerengu to Kaikoura for the day. Not the usual "hump" sign - this is for a dip. Ford in the road - low spot that often gets washed out The dip is surfaced in concrete to prevent it getting washed out. Another dip, here you can see to the side the one-lane bridge available, if the road washes out Men working ahead - construction.

More hay bales encased in green plastic. Some along the roadside had cute smiley faces or "Go All Blacks" type slogans painted on them. Nachos for lunch - one of Fran's favorites. The beach at Kaikoura, gorgeous! Looking north Looking south at the peninsula. On the far end sometimes some seals hang out - we're about to go check it out.

Looking out at the tidal flats at low tide Asking people to stay 10 metres (30 feet) away from the seals, to not distress the wild animals. They're trying to sleep! A seal!

Looks like the shell is sunken into the rock - like the mollusc has dug a depression into the rock. Close-up - they're really about 1-2 inches in diameter. Conical shelled snails? close-up Bob's shoe shows how tiny these shells are

Teeny conical shells - like a centimeter in length max. Gobs of them! Nearly invisible are tiny shrimp darting about in the tide pools. They are nearly transparent, only visible by first finding their shadow on the bottom. Bob got a nice shot of one - he's on top of the dark kelp, right side, at the bottom of the kelp. Two of them in this shot, one hard to see on the left, one top middle in the green weeds. Big 4WD!

Ducks! A small park in Kaikoura Pedestrian street crossing, but here the pedestrians have to give way. This is not the norm. Pot Belly Bakery and Cafe - name matches the recently seen Fat Fish, Fat Cat, etc cafes.
