Doug and I were doing some taxi time in the C140 taildragger and had a low speed taxi incident. We attempted to turn around in a narrow space. We allowed the tail to swing off the hard surface and into the grass where it was stopped by a large erosion control rock. This felt to us in the cockpit as the most gentle of things. I have had rough landings. I have been stuck out in fields. This felt like the most gentle of stops.
Yet it must have been significant enough because it did this damage! The tail bracket box was twisted. After this damage I had no doubt from the feel of the rudder pedals that we had broken something. It took full right rudder to overpower the strong left turning.
